Google Ads for beginners
What are you actually paying for?
Google Ads can place your message in front of someone already searching for a product or service like yours. You generally pay when that person clicks the advertisement.
Your advertising budget is paid to Google and finances the clicks or other campaign interactions. It is separate from the agency fee for research, setup, tracking, management and optimisation.
A click is not automatically a customer. The search term, advertisement, offer, landing page, price, trust and follow-up process all affect whether that click becomes a useful enquiry or sale.
This is why a campaign should not be judged only by traffic. The important question is whether relevant searches produce valuable actions at an acceptable cost.
Google Ads can create immediate visibility, but it cannot make an unclear offer convincing or repair a website that customers do not trust.
Six essential terms
Understand the numbers before spending the budget.
Campaign language becomes much easier when every metric is connected to a practical business question.
Keyword
The word or theme used to decide when your advertisement may enter an auction.
Search term
The actual phrase a person typed. This reveals whether the traffic was genuinely relevant.
Click
A visit generated by the advertisement. Useful only when it comes from appropriate intent.
Conversion
An agreed valuable action such as an enquiry, call, booking or completed purchase.
Cost per conversion
The average advertising cost required to produce one tracked action.
ROAS
Return on advertising spend, mainly useful when revenue is tracked accurately.
Campaign logic
A good click begins before the advertisement appears.
We begin with the business goal, then work backwards through the conversion, landing page, advertisement and search intent. This prevents the campaign from becoming a loose collection of keywords.
Campaign types
Choose the format around the buying journey.
Not every business needs every campaign type. The format follows the audience, offer, data and commercial goal.
Reach active demand
Text advertisements shown around relevant searches for services, products or solutions.
Present products
Product-led campaigns using an accurate feed, pricing, images and availability information.
Reconnect carefully
Reach previous visitors where consent, audience size and campaign strategy make it appropriate.
Use automation with control
Cross-network campaigns requiring strong assets, conversion data and disciplined evaluation.

Budget without confusion
How much should you spend on Google Ads?
There is no responsible universal minimum. A useful starting budget depends on click prices, location, competition, search volume, conversion rate, customer value and how much data is required to make decisions.
A very small budget in an expensive market may spread activity too thinly. A large budget does not help when conversion tracking is unreliable or the landing page is weak. We define the assumptions before recommending scope.
Campaign workflow
From business objective to ongoing optimisation.
Discovery
Offer, margins, audience, geography, capacity and commercial goals.
Measurement
Conversions, analytics, consent considerations and data quality.
Build
Structure, keywords, exclusions, advertisements, assets and settings.
Launch
Final checks, controlled activation and early search-term review.
Improve
Budget, bids, queries, advertisements, pages and reporting.
Account quality
What responsible management looks like.
The goal is not to spend the budget faster. It is to learn where advertising creates business value and where it does not.
Warning signs

- Advertising budget mixed with agency fees
- Guaranteed revenue without evidence
Useful standards
- Account goals connected to business outcomes
- Conversion actions clearly documented
- Search terms and exclusions reviewed
- Budget and management costs separated
- Changes explained through evidence
The complete acquisition system
Clicks perform better when the destination is ready.
Paid search, organic visibility and the website should support the same commercial message.
Frequently asked questions
Google Ads questions before launch.
How quickly can Google Ads generate results?
Campaigns can begin producing impressions and clicks soon after approval, but useful optimisation requires conversion data and enough time to evaluate search quality, costs and landing-page response.
What is the difference between the ad budget and management fee?
The advertising budget is paid to Google for campaign traffic. The management fee covers agency work such as research, setup, tracking, monitoring, optimisation and reporting.
Can you guarantee leads or sales?
No honest agency can guarantee customer behaviour or revenue. Results depend on demand, competition, budget, offer, website, tracking and sales follow-up. We provide an agreed scope and evidence-based management.
Do I need a new landing page?
Not always. We assess whether the existing page clearly matches the advertisement, works well on mobile, builds trust and supports the intended conversion. If it does not, improving the destination may be a priority.
Will I own the Google Ads account?
The preferred arrangement is transparent client access and clear ownership of the account and data, subject to the agreed project setup.
Do you run German and English campaigns?
Campaigns should be based on real search behaviour in each language. English campaigns can be managed in English; German keyword selection and advertisement copy require appropriate German localisation rather than literal translation.
Are you a Google Partner?
No. S8 Studio does not currently claim Google Partner status. Our proposal is based on the campaign work and reporting we agree to deliver, not on an unsupported badge.
Where can I learn more about Google Ads?
Google provides an official overview and platform information on the Google Ads website.
